UK Appoints British-Nigerian as Trade Envoy to Nigeria

Florence Eshalomi, a British-Nigerian politician, has been appointed as the United Kingdom's trade envoy to Nigeria. Eshalomi, 44, serves as the MP for the Vauxhall and Camberwell Green constituency and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Political and International Studies with Law from Middlesex University.

With this appointment, Eshalomi becomes the second Nigerian to assume this role.

In a statement on Tuesday, the UK's Business and Trade Secretary, Jonathan Reynolds, announced the decision, which aims to attract investment to the UK and stimulate economic growth. "I’ve launched a new team of trade envoys who will leverage their experience, expertise, and knowledge to open up new markets worldwide for British businesses, draw investment into the UK, and ultimately drive economic growth," Reynolds stated.

Confirming her appointment on X, Eshalomi expressed, "It is an honour to be appointed as the United Kingdom’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria. I look forward to strengthening my close ties with Nigeria to promote a robust and prosperous economic relationship between our two great nations. I am eager to explore shared growth opportunities for both countries."
